Back to classes
Now, after several weeks of manifestations against the male chauvinism, the return to normal classes is converting on a reality to all careers through university and it will be time to do an evaluation of all that was obtained. I wasn't too involved as I wanted to be, but in all this time I learned a lot of my own classmates, their speeches and experiences leading this movement. It's important to us as art students and, above all, as a women to support each other and work to build environments and spaces that give us tools and oportunities equal to all in an area that, as the mayority of society, is leading historically by men.
Even when a protocol to denunciate cases of sexual abuse and harassment existed before, it wasn't enough to handle denounces properly, specially the wellnes of the victims. One of the main demains was to improve effectively this protocol. To insert non sexist education and gender equality as a reality on the classrooms and the formation of us as proffesionals.
In Art School mostly all professors are men, they didn't seem really present and commited. Now, we are fighting and asking to get mandatory training on appropriate behavior to work in class to all teachers, something that is more than necessary in many cases.
Even when the manifestations, strikes and sit-ins at universities are in their last moments and now the concerns are being put into evaluations to finish the semester, the fight will continue from other ways to get the changes we urgently need. Feminism came to stay, and not to be just the turn topic of the news.
